Business Research Databases: Finding Business Information

Business Research Databases Handout

Use the databases listed below to search for business articles and other types of business information. Many articles may be found full-text, while others may only be indexed or found in print journals on the sixth floor of the library. If you are unable to locate the full text of an article, check Maag Journal Finder to view print & electronic holdings for the journal. If MJF does not lead you to the full text, use the Online Article Request Form to order the article electronically. InterLibrary Loan can locate most articles and will email you with a PDF attachment. This process takes approximately one week.

Click on the database titles below if you are on campus. If off campus, use the Off Campus Access links. Authentication to an OhioLINK database requires you to:

• Select your institution (Youngstown State University) then click Submit.
• Enter your last name followed by first name.
• Enter your YSU ID# (“Y” number found on your YSU ID).
• Enter your PASSWORD. **YSU ID# unless changed in Your Library Record**
• Click on Submit
• YSU databases require YSU username & password (same as YSU email).

ARTICLEFIRST (OCLC) / OFF CAMPUS ACCESS
Index of the items listed on table of contents pages of over 12,000 journals. Covers articles, news stories, letters and other items on topics as diverse as business, humanities, medicine, popular culture, sciences, social sciences, and technology. For most items, the database also provides a list of libraries that hold the journal.

OFF CAMPUS ACCESS / ABOUT COMM & MASS MEDIA
Cover-to-cover indexing and abstracts for over 300 journals, and selected coverage of over 100 more. Includes full text for nearly 200 journals. Many major journals have indexing, abstracts, PDFs and searchable citations from their first issues to the present (dating as far back as 1915). CMMC contains a sophisticated controlled vocabulary and comprehensive reference browsing.

ABOUT ECONLIT
EconLit, the American Economic Association’s database, is the world’s foremost source of references to economic literature. Contains more than 785,000 records from 1969-present and covers virtually every area related to economics.

ECONOMIA Y NEGOCIOS / OFF CAMPUS ACCESS
Provides citations in Spanish for articles on business and economics from over 200 Spanish and Portuguese-language periodicals published in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Spain, the United States and elsewhere.

Includes the full text of more than 7000 online research journals covering many subject areas. Most electronic indexes available to the Ohio academic community link from article citations to the full text in the EJC.

JSTOR (Journal Storage) / OFF CAMPUS ACCESS
JSTOR TUTORIALS
High-resolution, scanned images of journal issues and pages as they were originally designed, printed, and illustrated. The journals archived in JSTOR span many disciplines.
JSTOR is not a current issues database. Due to the archival mission, there may be a gap (1-5 years) between the most recent journal issue and back issues available.

LNA KNOWLEDGE CENTER / YOUTUBE VIDEO TUTORIALS
Provides access to news, business, legal, medical, and reference information from nearly 7,000 sources, most in full text. Covers newspapers, magazines, wire services, federal & state court opinions, federal & state statutes, federal regulations, and SEC filings. News information is updated daily and wire services several times daily.

Full text for over 1,900 general reference, business, consumer health, general science, and multi-cultural periodicals. Also offers indexing and abstracts for over 2,510 periodicals. NBER WORKING PAPERS / OFF CAMPUS ACCESS
National Bureau of Economic Research working papers.

NEWSPAPER SOURCE / OFF CAMPUS ACCESS
Full text for 185 national (U.S.) and international newspapers, including Christian Science Monitor, USA Today, The Washington Post, The Washington Times, The Times (London), Toronto Star, etc. Selective full text for 392 regional (U.S.) newspapers. Also, full-text television & radio news transcripts are provided from CBS News, CNN, CNN International, FOX News, NPR, etc.

Five online full-text Ohio newspapers, including The Blade, Cincinnati Post, Columbus Dispatch, Dayton Daily News, and The Plain Dealer.
