Start by using Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) for a more specific search. The call number for Mathematics (that is, where the book is located on the shelves) begins with “QA.” The history of mathematics books are usually found in the QA20 range and are located on floor 5A. If the call number is preceded by “Ref,” the item is located in the Reference Room on the main floor and can be used, but does not circulate.

Once an item has been selected, copy or print the publication information (author, title, publisher, date) found on the title page of the book or from the catalog record so the item can be properly cited later.
