Respiratory Care Seminar RESC 6906: 1: Your Topic

What will I write about?

Choose a general topic that interests you!

The link below will give you the MedLine Plus overview of Lung Diseases. I recommend checking out the sections on News, Related Issues, and Specific Conditions if you don't know where to start.

This should give you an idea of a topic that may interest you that you could summarize in 1-2 words.

Write a Research Question

When you brainstorm your research question, the best thing to do would be to ask yourself "what topics might come up when I'm talking about this topic?"

For instance: "what topics might come up when I'm talking about ASTHMA?

Make a list of ideas like the one below:

  • Nebulizers
  • Albuterol (rescue) Inhaler
  • Wheezing
  • Coughing
  • Symptom Mamagement
  • Triggers (allergies, exercise, anxiety)
  • Quality of Life

You can then use 2-3 of these concepts to write a research question.

EX) Do Asthma patients using Nebulizers or Albuterol Inhalers have more effective symptom management?

Assignment Benchmark

First list your general topic (1-2 words)!

Then, after you brainstorm, write a question that you will use the literature to answer.

(You will enter this into the form at the end of the tutorial)
