The Multimedia Center is a great place for students who enjoy working with music and multimedia technology and helping other students.

Position Title:

Library Student Assistant - Multimedia Center

Position Description:

  • Shelves and/or retrieves library materials
  • Assists patrons in locating music scores, CDs, DVDs, etc.
  • Assists patrons with electronic reserves
  • Uses various types of media equipment
  • Provides training to MMC patrons on basic technical skills in multimedia
  • Assists staff and Multimedia Librarian with assigned projects
  • Light cleaning as required (dusting, cleaning computers, etc.)
  • Works in a team environment to provide quality service to MMC patrons

Minimum Requirements:

  • General interest in library work
  • General interest in music
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to use a personal computer for basic office functions
  • Willingness to learn use of MMC software and equipment
  • Ability to learn library classification and filing systems
  • Ability to accurately alphabetize and file
  • Comfortable training others

Reports to:

Student assistants are supervised by full-time Maag Library staff.


Standing hourly rate as established by the University.


Part-time (i.e., maximum of twenty-five [25] hours per week) during the academic year. In the MMC, the average is 11-12 hours per week.
During the school year, the MMC hours are:

Monday - Thursday   8:00am - 9:00pm
Friday   8:00am - 4:45pm
Saturday   1:00pm - 4:45pm
Sunday   1:00pm - 5:00pm


Student wages are subject to City of Youngstown, State, and Federal taxation. Like other state employees, student assistants must complete and have on file at the YSU Payroll Office a current W-4 form designating withholding amounts.
